Aditi Swaminathan - Watercolour Artist
|

Aditi Swaminathan www.artnthings.com From Sandalwood & Creditview, go east on Sandalwood to Crown Victoria, north to Roadmaster and west to #52 This is the third year at the studio tour for Aditi and she will be showcasing images from India and Indonesia painted in watercolors. These will include landscapes, streetscapes and everyday living from the region. Additional folk art forms from the subcontinent will also be on display. Aditi’s signature style is the use of bold colors and loose brushstrokes and paintings this year at the studio will reflect that flowing vibrancy very well. My personal philosophy for creating art stems from seeing colors in action, through the play of light, dark and tones- creating a form on paper that communicates to its viewer just as if two people are talking to each other. I aim to express moods, feelings of my subject versus a realistic portrayal of a subject. I create art when something I see connects to life’s simple pleasures, of beauty in its most simplistic form, of the capacity to find extraordinary in every day’s ordinary. I grew up watching my mother paint but never thought of picking up the brush in early years. I would occasionally sketch but never painted. But I think there was an attraction that drew me to paintings and the process of creating them; and this preference towards forms, color, and transforming the white of the paper came to be realized some 10 years ago. Process used to create any painting starts with identifying the passage of light and the mood I want to communicate in my painting. That defines the composition, choice of colors and temperature of colors. It also defines where my lightest lights and darkest darks will be. I also give thought to the texture I want my painting to reflect and that guides me to place my colors accordingly. The series of painting that I propose to display at this year’s studio tour will showcase the series I have been doing on India. This exhibition will essentially showcase India that is as diverse in its people as it is in practices and places. It is a series that attempts to capture everyday living, beliefs and will depict a varied sense of India through the brush of an artist. Most paintings will be in transparent watercolors -- a medium that I think communicates the essence of India wonderfully.
